Transport across thin membranes: Effective solute flux jump

چکیده
A model to describe the transport across membranes of chemical species dissolved in an incompressible flow is developed via homogenization. The asymptotic matching between microscopic and macroscopic solute concentration fields leads a flux jump membrane, quantified through solution diffusion problems at microscale. predictive model, written closed form, covers wide range membrane behaviors, limit negligible Reynolds Péclet numbers inside membrane. closure problem microscale, found homogenization, allows one link microstructure its effective properties, such as solvent permeability diffusivity. After validation comparison with corresponding full-scale solution, immediate application provided, where behavior priori predicted analysis properties. introduced tools considerations may find applications design thin microstructured membranes.

Hydrodynamic effects on the solute transport across endothelial pores and hepatocyte membranes.
In this short note we propose a simple and rapid procedure to calculate the net quantity of metabolites absorbed by hepatocytes from blood plasma. The blood movement through sinusoids determines an opposed circulation of plasma through the space of Disse. Hydrodynamic considerations lead to the conclusion that hepatocytes absorb for their own synthesis processes a quantity of metabolites in a v...
متن کاملGas transport across hyperthin membranes.
The use of organic polymeric membranes to separate gaseous mixtures provides an attractive alternative to other methods such as selective adsorption and cryogenic distillation. The primary advantages of membrane-based separations are their relative energy efficiency and lower costs. Because the flux of a gas across a membrane is inversely proportional to the membrane's thickness, this method re...

The permeability of frog skin under the influence of urea hyperosmolarity has been studied. Flux ratio asymmetry has been demonstrated again for tracer mannitol. The inhibitors DNP, CN(-), and ouabain have been used to eliminate active sodium transport and it was found that urea hyperosmolarity produces asymmetrical mannitol fluxes on frog skins having no short-circuit current. These findings s...
متن کاملMass Transport in Thin Supported Silica Membranes
In this thesis multi-component mass transport in thin supported amorphous silica membranes is discussed. These membranes are micro-porous, with pore diameters smaller than 4Å and show high fluxes for small molecules (such as hydrogen) combined with high selectivities for these molecules with respect to larger ones. The chemical and thermal stability of silica membranes are favourable compared t...
